Outsourcing
The function of legal advice and knowledge management
has been traditionally in-sourced in major organizations and
outsourced in smaller organizations. However due to the universalisation
of education and with the increase of number of foreign educated
lawyers in India, it has become possible for legal outsourcing
to India to be an attractive option not merely on account
of cost effectiveness but also on account of the quality of
output.
The traditional reasons for out-sourcing,
viz. (i) need to outsource non-core activities; (ii) need
to outsource to niche providers who offer best practice processes;
(iii) outsource in order to achieve cost savings, and (iv)
outsource in order to improve management ’s focus on
more strategic issues, are not the only reasons why legal
outsourcing is preferred. Legal research and regulatory compliance
outsourcing is becoming an accepted and more efficient way
of functioning for organizations the world over, as the success
of various types of BPOs has shown in India.
The Process Outsourcing of documentation
and regulatory filings is an appropriately structured arrangement
between an Organization, which could be a manufacturing industry,
law firm or an R&D outfit, and an Outsourcing supplier
like Indlawnet to perform services, which were otherwise conducted
in-house.
Conceptually, outsourcing, while providing
a means of profitability to large and small organizations,
has afforded a huge business opportunity to developing countries
like India. Legal Outsourcing could transform a transaction-based
relationship to value-added strategic partnerships and thereby
ensure sustained partnership and profitability to all parties
to a transaction.
